U.S.S. Cod is a World War II fleet submarine awarded seven battle stars. One of the engineers who helped build her, and took her out on trial dives, was Walter Waetjen -- who went on to serve as CSU’s president from 1973-88. Today the Cod is captained by CSU alumnus Paul Farace.
Now docked in Lake Erie, Cod is one of the finest restored submarines on display and the only one that has not had stairways and doors cut into her pressure hull for public access. Visitors to this proud ship use the same vertical ladders and hatches that were used by her crew.
Captain Farace will lead our fascinating tour of this historic vessel, followed by a picnic lunch.
