Welcome new alumni! More than 1,000 grads joined Alumni Association at December ceremony

More than 1,000 graduates walked across the stage at Fall 2015 Commencement at the Wolstein Center on Dec. 13, 2015, becoming the newest members of the CSU Alumni Association.

“We’re delighted to welcome these recent graduates to our alumni community and we look forward to keeping in touch with them as they pursue their careers and their dreams,” said Brian Breittholz, assistant vice president, alumni relations, and executive director, CSU Alumni Association.

Of more than 1,300 graduation applications filed for fall 2015 semester, 340 were for the College of Sciences and Health Professions; 298 for the Monte Ahuja College of Business; 235 for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; 189 for the Washkewicz College of Engineering; 163 for the College of Education and Human Services; 63 for the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs; 22 for the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law; and 5 were for the School of Nursing. See pie chart. The Cleveland-Marshall College of Law commencement ceremony is held once a year in May.

Roberta Steinbacher, Ph.D., of the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs received the Distinguished Emerita Faculty Honorary Degree. As director of the college’s Institute of Urban Studies, Dr. Steinbacher taught courses in urban issues, urban policy, public policy, social psychology and women’s studies. Her trailblazing research interest in reproductive technology, sex selection and its impact on women and society led her to publish in prominent academic journals and caught the attention of the popular press. Dr. Steinbacher’s work was covered by publications ranging from The Washington Post, to Mother Jones to People Magazine.

Katherine Webb, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the College of Education and Human Services, was the valedictorian.

After the ceremony, President Ronald M. Berkman tweeted, “Congratulations, #CLEstate Class of 2015! Take pride in this milestone. Here's wishing all the best to all who graduated today! #CLEstate15”
