In what might be considered the Stone Age to Gen Z, there was a time when college students needed to register for classes — gasp — in person.
It certainly made for some memories and when we recently shared a throwback photo of groups of students crowding a registration desk on social media, alumni who lived through it, had thoughts.
Here’s what they had to say.
Mike Samenuk (BA ’78)
.....and then walking across Euclid Ave to the bookstore and dropping a couple hundred and spending so much time in long lines! Pizza and beer at Fat Glenn's afterwards!
Barb Samolis Millspaugh (BA ’70)
Ah The cards You prayed that there was still some left for that class you needed. It was good to have an upper class friend to get them for you. Class ‘70
Jason Edleman (BA ’96)
OMG! And the joy of learning that your class was filled, and you have to find something else and stand in another line!
Thomas Apathy (BME ’80, BME ’84)
You got there early or got shut out and ended up with classes at really lousy times of the day....my first quarter i had a class at 8 am, and 3 pm
Dave Ostroske (BA ’87)
As an employee, it was two days of trying to help people try to register. By the end of day two, you were ready for a vacation.
Howard Primer (BA ’11)
Registration decathlon: Advisor -> Run to registrar before your class filled -> Bursar's office -> Parking department -> Finding your way out of the Chester Building -> Bookstore.
