“Campus Parking—25 Cents per day.” The crowd erupted with laughter when that clip was shown as part of our “Now and Then” video we recently featured in Arizona and in Florida. The thought of only paying 25 cents for an entire day of parking caused everyone to chuckle. Back in the day, it probably seemed like an appropriate fee. Nowadays, that quarter could buy you minutes. Times change.
We’re back in Cleveland after a handful of alumni events in places where alumni go to retire, or go to simply escape Cleveland winters. The events were filled with alumni happy to connect with other Vikings, and to learn about CSU today.
In Florida we also had the opportunity to showcase talented faculty who presented educational programs at all three stops. I am reminded how fortunate we are as an institution to have such talented folks among our faculty each time they present.
Two weeks after Florida, we headed to Phoenix for our annual Cleveland Indians Spring Training baseball game and area-alumni reception sponsored with the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law alumni. Both events were great successes. During the reception, I shared with the crowd a video we created showing the campus in different stages of transformation. All too often we hear alumni comment that they don’t recognize the campus today as it is so different from when they were enrolled. In this video we attempt to bridge the past and the present. Enjoy for yourself here.
Although the weather outside in Cleveland doesn’t quite feel like spring, our calendar is packed with spring activities. One of our marque events, the Women’s Leadership Symposium, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10th. Each year this program gets better and better. The presenters and panelists bring precious life/work experiences with them. Each attendee contributes to this special experience as well. Two transformative leaders in our region are providing keynote addresses—Tricia Griffith, President and CEO of Progressive Insurance is the morning keynote speaker while Dr. Janet Kavandi, Director of NASA Glenn Research Center is the lunch speaker. Both will share inspiring stories and life experiences with the audience. The day will also include over a dozen workshops, panels, and break-out sessions. The symposium has sold out in past years, so you are encouraged to register early to reserve your space. Find out more and/or register here.
The results from CSU’s Giving Day are in and records were broken! More than 2,500 gifts were made in this 24-hour drive. Over $269,000 was raised for programs ranging from support of athletic teams, to college-specific programs, to Lift Up Vikes. A wide range of areas benefitted from these gifts. Special thanks to the alumni who demonstrated CSU support on Giving Day through their gifts, and to the alumni who also served as social media ambassadors, helping us spread the message. Thank you for your support.
